How come? Why? How much?
How come and how much % of a bill are we suppose to tip for curbside take-away, pick-up, take-out, to-go, or what ever it's called at a particular restaurant? No one fills my water glass, brings more lemons, salad dressing, clean forks, desert menus, extra barbecue sauce, etc etc, yet we're expected to tip these "food runners" anyway? They just bag it and bring it out to us. Don't they? I'm not opposed to tipping, really, honest (even though I've been called cheap). Do they have a "tip rating" by our name and phone number they have in their computer when we call in our order? Will they spit in our food and forget the soup if our tip ratings are low? Do we get better service if it's high? I'd just like others' opinions on this matter. Where's Dear Abby when I need her? I've lost sleep over it. My tummy hurts worrying I've not left enough or too much... And do we tip the same amount or less if we go inside to pick it up ourselves; where no one brings it out to us? And why don't we tip at regular fast food drive thru's? Don't these minimum wage employees still bag our food.... good grief.

I love your marriage post. The video is sooo cute, and I thought it was such a fun way to do things, but maybe it would have been more appropriate if they entered that way into the reception. I kind of think of the ceremony as more serious, and the reception as the super fun part. I also loved your stats on Washington DC- That is a great tid bit! Hope youare great!
I am always so confused about the tipping on to go orders. I never know how much I am suppose to give. If someone knows they need to tell us. :)
I'm terrible at percentages. I just got chinese take out the other day for me and my dad. The bill was $18.50 and I tipped $3.50 I have no idea what percentage that is and if I over paid or not, it just seemed right.
Yeah, I've had these same questions. I'd be interested to know proper tipping etiquette. As for me, I only ever tip when I've had a sit down meal. Maybe if the Sonic girl did a cool roller skate trick or something on her way to my car...
Please tell me you're kidding about losing sleep over this. :)
I never tip at fast food places, but I do leave at tip at Starbucks (mostly because I've gotten to know so many of them because of Jason.) When it comes to picking up food at a to-go place, I leave 10%. Geez--it is so complicated! Why don't employers pay them more so we don't have to chip in to supplement their income?!!
Be aware of your own unconcious tipping tendencies. Studies show women tend to tip men more generously (and men tip women better). Tipping goes up universally when the weather is good, lower when it is not. Attractive women earn higher tips, as do attentive men who don't make mistakes. (from a quick visit to google and tipping suggestions)
But I like Shaylas thinking. (no lost sleep)
As a contractor that may soon be working at Chili's applebees etc. I say be generous.... overly genrerous.
