Eat at Marv's

Carol and I found a new place for great hamburgers in St George this Saturday. MARV'S HAMBURGERS ~ since 1996. (thanks for the recommendation Debbie.) Pretty good stuff, the bacon-cheese-burgers coming out on trays looked really good (if you like that sort of cholesterol, heart attack causing food.) They make their own french fries daily, not pre-frozen. . gotta try the onion rings next. Marv's is at the end of the building that Starbucks is in, near the Gun Barrel Restaurant, at the N/W corner of Sunset and Bluff. They have no web site for me to direct you to, you just have to take my word for it.

They make their own dipping sauce, good stuff. It's worth the drive, just be prepared, NO Coca Cola products, Pepsi only. I settled for rootbeer. :-(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDSAY

Wow! Where have the years gone? Guess it's true, "time flies when you're having fun." (are we having fun yet? we had a lot. . .even including Girls' Camp and teaching her how "not to drive" ) She didn't disappoint us with only one small accident. Just like her sisters. HA. Hope you enjoy you're 24th!!

Why I don't "do" Black Friday

I am thankful, however, that Carol got up in the dark for many years, to head out for the Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, then I'd be up a few hours later and out painting Christmas windows earning more $$ to spend on presents. The best part of that first day of painting; I'd take a couple of turkey & cranberry sandwiches with me. Thanksgiving ~ sandwiches and left overs are the best part. Due to broken collar bone in 1984, I took Rick Barker painting with me. Without him, I couldn't have kept up with my schedule that year. I painted holiday & Christmas windows for at least 20 years. . .then it was suddenly not fun any more. It was a good run. Happy Thanksgiving everyone !!

Caution: Don't think Too Hard!

This can either explain a lot or just complicate things. But, I don't want to "over-think" this. NOW what do I do? How do I work at work?

Can Thinking Too Hard Lead to Weight Gain?
Don’t think too hard? A University Laval research team has demonstrated that intellectual work induces a substantial increase in calorie intake and may lead to weight gain. The details of this discovery, are published in the most recent issue of Psychosomatic Medicine.

The research team, supervised by Dr. Angelo Tremblay, measured the spontaneous food intake of 14 students after several tasks and found that the caloric intake after intellectual tasks was much higher when compared to restful activities.

Blood samples taken before, during, and after each session revealed that intellectual work causes much bigger fluctuations in glucose and insulin levels than rest periods.
“Caloric overcompensation following intellectual work, combined with the fact that we are less physically active when doing intellectual tasks, could contribute to the obesity epidemic currently observed in industrialized countries,” said Mr. Chaput. “This is a factor that should not be ignored, considering that more and more people hold jobs of an intellectual nature,” the researcher concluded.

This study may change the way we work and may be a good argument, in the event some may need one, about a performance-evaluation report. (Or, maybe those of you who are intellectuals need concern yourself with this. . . I don't think my daily work is that intellectual.)

Slap me down, silly good!

While watching college football Saturday, they highlighted a local family owned diner, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (The Alabama quarterback was filmed there in a pre-game segment where he and his dad ate every Friday morning.) It brought back memories being in the army in Alabama and some weekends driving many miles looking for any truck stop that served potatoes with breakfast, not just grits. In one small town we ordered french fries in a diner after being told by the waitress that potatoes weren't on the breakfast menu. She acknowledged they have french fries and relented to start some earlier than usual. She mumbled "Yankees!" and put the order in. We did not return to that diner.

Breakfast, the best two meals of the day! (FACT: If you enjoy a really good, big & hearty breakfast, you don't really need a lunch, thereby consuming less calories all day.)

Did you know that pure maple syrup has no added sugars or flavoring? (Vermont syrup, of course.)

This all looks so good.

Some a little less healthy than others, otherwise known as the comfort food.

Carol would get the oatmeal. (she's good)

Feel good breakfasts. Blueberries are one of the best berries for us to eat. What better way than on waffles? ~ This is one of my favorite breakfasts. The always popular, bacon and eggs. Is your mouth watering yet? To make reservations, please call 435-eat-good or: http://gk12calbio.berkeley.edu/lessons/eggfacts.pdf

I'm thankful for an friend from the old 16th ward. As soon as the blessing had been said, he'd exclaim, "Let's eat!" Thanks Ron Oldson, for helping me enjoy life.

EAT AND ENJOY LIFE. EAT HEALTHY AND ENJOY A BETTER LIFE. (so we're told, anyway.)

Hot Chocolate Weather

With the arrival of cooler weather, I am thankful that Carol has introduced me to the new hot chocolates from Starbucks. (The best ones are at Jones/I-215.)

The Salted Carmel signature hot chocolate is very yummy. (forget that it has 450 calories, 45 carbs, etc, etc & 5 grams of protein - health drink) It is so good, you'll want to share some with your honey. A deliciously good thing to do!
Dont share with your dog. . . no matter how sad he looks at you. One of life's little pleasures. So easy a Cave Man can do it!!
What? ? ?

Happy Autum everyone.
