Here tonight, gone tomorrow

I don't know if our neighborhood is unique with this phenomenon or not, but either us or the neighbor two doors down, will put out on the sidewalk, furniture, baby toys, etc, we have no more use for (you know, items of some value; not-enuff-to-trash and too lazy to haul to the DI) and viola! The next day they are gone. (not quite like it in this case, but it usually is.)
It beats saving up a pile of stuff for a yard sale and it's easier than hauling it piecemeal to the DI. (Truth be told, our neighbor and us have actually taken advantage of one another's generosity a few times.) There is a guy who drives our neighborhood with a staked sided pickup truck, looking just for these "finds," but several times, we've been able to witness other happy folks find the items, hesitate and with convincing from us, that it's free for the taking, see them load up, drive away, being able to see our treasures going to good use again, not to mention the good fortune for the "finder."

See the world differently

See things in a whole new light. Get your rose-colored glasses today. . . but before you do, have you wondered where this idea originated? A quick google search indicated two possible ways. One, being that the romantic artwork during the Victorian Age of the 17th century, the viewer associated these paintings of flowers & rose gardens with optimism, such as "painting a rosy picture." Another theory is that early mapmakers used rose petals to keep their glasses scratch-free. Through time, rose-colored stains formed and hence, they looked at their maps through these rose-colored glasses. Some say optimism is a way of cooping with the negativity in life, as obstacles are always put in our paths. My family are my rose-colored glasses: my hope, love and my life. As Carol so eloquently put it once, "you have your crap, I have mine." If we dwell on it, it still won't improve. If we ignore it, it will still be there. We all have them, just different degrees. Personally, I like my plain RayBan's. . .

How long can we keep going?

I recently saw a bike blog with a fictitious magazine article with a look into the future of how Armstrong predicts a return in the 2051 Tour de France. With age-enhanced photo it said he'll be 77 years old and still plans on riding. . . . I really doubt it, almost the same way as I doubt Brett Favre, at only 40 yrs old, will return after the beating he took by the New Orleans Saints playoff game. Lost, but only by 3.
I wonder if I'll be riding at 77. I hope I am at least still playing with my grand kids and hitting the golf course. (There, I blogged. seems Fb has taken over our communication sharing.)

Over or under, Coke or Pepsi . . .

How you prefer your toilet paper actually reveals a lot of what kind of person you are.

The same scientific study of which coke you drink, also exposes the real you.
*They both match your out-look on life - don't let either be a serious hang up - do what you wanna do, go where you wanna go; be yourself and learn to be flexible. (Sorry, I had to blog about something, don't believe a thing about any scientific studies on these two topics.)

Old McDonald

I can't believe I'm doing Farmville now.........don't laugh. Carol says to call it a "Zen Garden" as in therapy. What in the world do I need therapy for? I'm normal, stable, on the downhill side of life and an old man who should be fully retired by now. But, then I see there are those who take it way to seriously, have found ways to cheat or legally advance and out-score their neighbors and even written a book on it.
Maybe this explains why my blog page has not been updated very often. My life is consumed by Facebook, grandsons, golf, hang-gliding, crosswords, bike riding, work, husbandly things, bull-riding, cooking, laundry, tae-kwon-do, base jumping, football (which is almost over) and my love of reading. Not much time for anything else. But, I enjoy visiting other blogs :-)

This is a quick video I got via email at work, kinda says it all. Enjoy. Hope you can copy and paste if it's not already in the fancy format that allows you to just click on it

Random thoughts & musings

Why aren’t airport pat-downs done like a real cop would to them? (After Id done a few, I'd lost any embarrassment, especially when I did find a weapon or contraband!! If you’re too modest, don’t fly.) The repetitive second guessing and finger-pointing everyone is doing is getting old. I can’t think of many things scarier than seeing a fellow airplane passenger trying to ignite a bomb while on final approach ~ or at any other time. When will our homeland security and TSA directors quit bowing to public opinion and profile these idiots at borders and airports? Not ethnic, race or religious, but totality of circumstances. On other thoughts: Can I really eat healthy at Taco Bell? How does Brett Favre do it? It’s said that elephants never forget but what do they do that’s so memorable? Where was I going with this? Certainly, not to the airport … maybe someday, we'll all ride 'bullet trains' across the country in stead of flying.
Happy New Year everyone!
